3. Hard to build a relationship with customers

When someone reaches out to your website, you have a chance to build a relationship with that person. It’s however, harder on a third-party platform like Etsy.

With Etsy, the experience is not personal. Your products are listed next to hundreds of other people’s products and when someone buys your product, it’s a one-off transaction, with no chance for you to reach out and continue the communication through email or messaging.

4. Harder to grow your email list

When someone purchases from you on Etsy, you can’t see their email address. Etsy owns this information and sellers are not allowed to use it. You’re unable to have a signup form directly in your Etsy shop too, so it makes it much harder for people to get to know your brand better through newsletters.

The good thing I use Etsy is that I can get inspired by other sellers who are creating similar products to mine and setting up my pricing strategy.

If you are looking for traditional shopping platforms, Shopify is the one you can have a look at.

Many successful business owners chose the main shop and put more marketing efforts there.
