What is Self-care?-Practical tips 1

Do you take care of yourself well? I would like to ask you about self-care. You can say “yes I am,” but what is exactly self-care?

Apart from basic survival activities, such as eating, going to work, showering, cleaning the house, etc, what else do you do that you feel alive and happy?

This is true self-care comes in.

Loving yourself

Self-care is all about being aware of your needs, and understanding the necessity for yourself first.

When you make time to take care of yourself, it means that you put in the effort to love yourself and respect yourself. Be a friend to yourself!

What type of self-care we can do

There are many aspects of self-care we can practice. I am going to detail what exactly we can do to take care of ourselves.

Physical care

Physical self-care is all about ensuring your body is nurturing, healthy, and active.

I don’t mean the ways of losing weight or cosmetic surgery. A healthy body means you feel more active and full of energy to feel alive.

Having a healthy body not only decreases your illness but also, reduces your stress level and anxiety. It helps you improve your mood.

How to take care of a healthy body.

Improving a healthy body needs three actionable factors.

  1. Eat healthy food to give you good nutrition-mindful eating practice

  2. Exercise regularly

  3. Quality sleep and rest.

Making a physical self-care routine can be different according to your situation or your wish. Please remember, that all self-care activities should work best for you. Take a little step and slowly change from your bad habits to your desired good habits.

Mental Self-Care

Often called Spiritual care, they may differ from each other. However, it is a truly personal practice to create meaning in life and dream.

Mental self-care helps you create a sense of inner-self. For example, you can be healthier outside, but you feel empty inside and talk to yourself negatively. you need to take care of your mental health to fulfill your inner self.

Mental care is essential because it focuses on your reflection and makes you clear vision and calms you in a fast-changing world. Be more confident and have high self-esteem to be successful.

Emotional self-care

We all experience our emotions as “good” or “bad”. Sometimes these emotions are rollercoastering. I have been there too.

Sometimes, we often ignore our negative emotions and only allow positive emotions. But we need to look into where the negative emotions come from. Not just ignore or hide them.

It is no good or bad. every emotion you feels has a reason and is valuable.

Personal self-care

We often say “I need me-time” Yes right! We need to have time to spend on our hobbies or pamper ourselves. It is more fun, too.

Personal self-care is all about treating yourself because you are worth it. Create a routine regularly to have fun and the indulgent thing you like. Such as having a day spa every month, having time for your drawing hobby 1-2 hours a week, or creating a relaxing night routine.

Relationship care

We all live in a relationship. It can be family, friends, or a loved one. It is fun and enjoyable with people you love.

However, we are often experiencing conflicts in relationships, and it causes us increased stress.

We need to be aware of our family and friends also have their own emotional needs. No matter how busy you are, please devoted time to nurturing your close connections with others.

We all felt how we missed the connection with close friends and family during the Pandemic situation. Please connect with people you love.

Self-growth care

We are studying for life-long. I don’t mean the study through a typical education system. I want to focus on life-long experience and study.

Self-growth is important because we are living in sth situation which needs critical thinking to solve everyday challenges. It can be in our life or our work, as long as we live.

Self-growth involves actions that have curiosity around us and storing desire to learn something we want.

Such as reading a book, listening to podcasts, learning a new skill, starting a journal, etc.

Financial care

Some people say “money is not important to being happy”. However, I strongly disagree with this definition. If you are in a situation where you cannot survive daily life, could you think about a happy lifestyle?

Financial care is setting goals to achieve a financial state where money becomes a source of security. It is all about having a better relationship with your finances.

To have a better relationship with the finance

  1. Creating a budget.

  2. Practice intentional spending

  3. Set an emergency fund

I am going to post self-care practical tips as a series, and this post is about the general meaning of self-care and the categories of self-care in our life. 

There are many aspects in our life and everybody has different self-care activities.

So, Today, you can grab a paper and write down what you want to practice self-care activities according to your life value. It could be anything and there are no right or wrong answers.
