The benefits of writing a Travel Journal

When you travel, a travel journal will be your friend. here is why we write a travel journal, the benefits of writing a travel journal, and some ideas.

We always dream of traveling to an unknown world. And once or twice a year, we travel to places we’ve never been to or liked. I am too. Plan travel once a year to discover me in my life. Traveling makes a lot of changes for me, and I enjoy the benefits.

First of all, travel gives you perspective. It is an education, a challenge, and a break from the routine of daily life. It offers opportunities to discover new places, lifestyles, cuisines, accents, and languages.

Whether I travel for personal or business trips, I want to document every step of the trip: highlights, events, things that make me smile, and things that make me reflect. So my travel journal has more journal and daily log pages than the plan page.

I always travel to Korea where my parents are in August for about two weeks. I have not been able to visit for 2 years due to the pandemic, so this trip is more exciting and new. So, I update the travel journal and bring it with me. A must-have for me while traveling is a travel journal and a book or two that can be easily read.

How about you? What items do you travel with?

Why do you need a travel journal?

For those of you who have known me for a long time, I am sure you will agree with the benefits of journaling. Journaling is recording your thoughts, memories, ideas, and plans. It calms you down, slows you down, and helps you feel in the present moment.

You can find out what type of journaling if you are new to journaling, please read the blog post to find out more!

When you travel, it’s not always enjoyable to be in constant motion and approach new things, places, and people. But this experience takes you out of your comfort zone. It’s scary at first, but then it’s amazing and addictive.

A travel journal is a perfect way to keep an open mind about your experiences on these trips. Of course to keep those memories alive for years to come. Photos are great for capturing that moment, but if you back it up with a feeling or a simple sketch of that moment, the memories will truly come to life when you re-read the page. Put your camera in place for a while and use your travel journal just like you would use a scrapbook. It is the reason why I keep a travel journal.

The benefits of writing a Travel journal

1. Travel journal is a great resource

A travel journal can be a great resource or record for your travel adventures. Let’s say you travel to the food paradise of Italy and discover an amazing restaurant with delicious food and great service. If you find such a gem, it will leave a record. Now that you know your family, friends, and colleagues will ask for recommendations from you, you are a great resource for them.

It’s easy these days to take photos while traveling and upload them directly to social media, but I like to use my digital travel journal to write down my feelings and add pictures by hand. Then the memories and emotions of that time are vividly alive. That’s why a travel journal is useful. A travel journal allows you to keep a detailed description of your restaurant, including its name, location, top dishes, and unique outdoor activities to recommend.

A travel journal can also record the gallery you’ve been to or the families you meet when you visit a local village. You can take many pictures of a gallery, or family you’ve met, but the pictures don’t really capture the emotion of the moment or the sounds and smell going on. In other words, a travel journal can help you document all the details that cannot be captured in a photo.

2. Photos of memories journaling

Photos can bring back memories of places you visit during your travels. A travel journal is a great way to keep photos of places you’ve visited, along with a record of your feelings. I use a digital journal and all this is solved in 5 minutes, which is more precious to me than any other photo album. Sometimes you can visit there again after a few years.

3. Learn the art of making a plan.

My travel journal has been organized so that it can be found anytime, anywhere, including the materials and tools necessary for travel. When you travel, sometimes your schedule becomes a bit tight. Especially when you are on a business trip, it is common to get tired of your busy schedule.

When planning a trip, what I do not miss is making a list of things to see, things to do, places to visit, etc., and researching the place and transportation information in advance.

I do a lot of pre-planning research to create a travel roadmap that works for me. This travel journal is a valuable addition to making the most of your trip.

4. A way to prevent waiting time.

I don’t like standing in long queues to enter parks or museums, or sitting on planes with long flights. At this time, I take out my travel journal and write. These activities can prevent waste of time. You’ll be able to spend your spare time anywhere on the iPad to write your thoughts.

5. Improves memory.

Even if we don’t have to look at the results of the study, we know all too well. When you write something, your brain stores much more information than when you don’t. Also, handwritten texts are more memorable. So I use my paperless digital travel journal to write by hand with a stylus.

Writing your travel experiences in a journal allows your brain to create strong connections with information that you can remember longer. This means you can more easily recall future experiences without having to revisit your travel journal.

6. You will discover your inner creativity.

A lot of people say they haven’t found creativity. However, as you write in your journal, you discover your hidden creativity.

I am not a design or art major. However, since I like writing and making things, I have had a hobby of sketching and decorating in my diary since I was young.

Sketching is a great way to slow down and truly focus on the moment. It’s like meditating and practicing skills at the same time. There are a lot of books and lectures on Sketch, but the best thing is to just try it out.

First, draw the closest object, then move on to nearby sights and scenes and/or the person you are currently looking at.

As I turned my day digitally, the amazing thing was that I used Procreates to enhance my inner creativity. When you go digital, there are virtually no limits to the materials and colors you can use.

If you are not good at drawing, there are photos or digital stickers. Just use stickers, photos, ticket or receipt snapshots, and handwriting to bring your travels to life on your pages.

If you are interested in creating clip art and digital stickers, we have an awesome membership community “Arisu Digital Creator Club”. our members get a Monthly Megazine with design tips and design elements every month. You can join the club and improve your inner creativity

7. It helps with writing.

These days, many blogs are published, and I study a lot to write well. So, how to write well? It is a constant practice.

Most writers will say that they traveled a lot with journaling to document their experiences. Keeping a travel journal can make your potential a reality.

Travel provides a writing of material and inspiration. Come across animals and plants, meet people, experience different cultures, see amazing sights and try different cuisines. These experiences are both material and inspiration. See a person or plant you meet along the way and write in one sentence.

8. Helps relieve stress.

In a way, travel is an active time. From planning a trip to flying long distances, to worrying about not meeting expectations, to safety concerns, to thinking about home, to exploring unfamiliar areas, these experiences can create travel stress. If your vacation trip is ruined by stress, it’s not the trip you want.

Of course, there are moments of anger and moments of stress. Write this moment in your travel journal.

Writing will strengthen and comfort you during the upheaval of your emotion. Writing reminds us of the purpose of the trip and gives us courage and resilience. When you start writing, your mind shuts off all the stress and allows you to focus on writing.

Also, when traveling, you may be disappointed with the travel guide. Or, when you get angry because of embarrassment while traveling. A travel journal can help you avoid this embarrassment. You can appeal your anger to your travel journal by writing down what makes you angry.

9. Be your travel companion.

Some people like to travel alone. If you like to travel alone, a travel journal will be a great travel companion for you.

As a teenager, I loved to travel alone. The small notebook I carried at that time was my travel diary and companion. Writing down my thoughts in my alone time, I had a conversation with my journal. Even now, when I read my journal of that time, I can feel my emotions that time.

10. You can organize your thoughts.

A travel journal is the best place to write down your travel goals, expectations, and aspirations. Keeping a travel journal allows you to monitor your progress and focus on your next achievement. In other words, a travel journal will help you achieve your travel goals so that you can get the most out of your trip. I am learning a lot about myself while traveling. I’ve learned that sometimes I can be too impatient with other people and I have to adapt and not be so critical of other cultures. In this way, if you record the progress of ginger and organize what you have learned, another book of life of growth is created.

What should I write in my travel journal?

For those of you who have never written a travel journal, at first, you may be hesitant about what to write.

But, as the saying goes, a journal is a conversation with yourself, so don’t get too caught up in it.

Also, you can read my blog post “How I Made the Digital Travel Journal” and get inspired to create a digital travel journal. You can see our newest digital journal product, “Digital Travel Journal.”

Finally, here are a few ideas you can use on your travels.

  1. At the beginning of your vacation, write down what you want to achieve from your trip. “What do I expect from this travel? What am I worried about now and why?

  2. Record key dates and times of visits.

  3. Write down check-in/check-out times and dates and accommodation information.

  4. If you are using an airline, write down the boarding time and flight information along with a photo of your boarding pass and how you feel while waiting.

  5. Write about your experiences using public transport in another country.

  6. Sketch or write your first thoughts with a picture of the airport scene upon arrival. From my experience, the scenery of Incheon Airport, which arrived after 10 pm due to a delayed flight, is still in my memory. The peaceful and quiet feeling of the airport, which was always crowded, made me feel another side.

  7. Write a plan for what you want to see or experience

  8. Write about your experiences with local food.

  9. Write down the architectural styles and colors of the places you have visited. It helps to understand the culture of another country.

  10. Write down the places and cities you have visited and the interesting things you have seen there.

  11. Collect ideas on what to bring home as gifts for friends and yourself.

  12. Try adding a map of the areas you visit on your page.

  13. Add a picture of a local currency on your journal page.

You can also fill your travel journal with many other ideas.

Wouldn’t a well-designed journal page to share with friends and family or post on social media could be more creative and inspiring than just posting a bunch of photos?

How about making a memorable trip with a travel journal on this trip?
