How to set your yearly goals -New Year Resolution

New year’s resolutions are fresh on my mind. Do you have a planned New Year’s resolution, and how is it going so far?

It is the second week of this year. You may plan what you want to accomplish in the new year. However, many people have experienced the failure of their New Year Resolutions with only a few attempts.

I understand, and I had been there, too. I made some New Year’s resolutions and gave them up within 3 days. Every time I failed to do that, I felt a sense of shame that made me lose my motivation. Especially when it comes to fitness or health goals.

So, today, let’s take a look at some of the ways you can achieve it without getting tired when planning your New Year’s resolutions.

How to set your yearly goals

wheel of life

The wheel of life

1. Be aware of yourself

Self-awareness is the key to improving yourself. Think through all areas of your life to evaluate what is working and what is not. Consider your health (both physical and mental), your relationships, your finances, your career, the way you spend your time, and any additional areas of your life – such as your education, parenting, faith, volunteer work, and more.

Your reflections will become building blocks of the goals you will set for the year to come.

2. Find out what is important to you

Next, take a look at your lists for a few minutes. Grab a notebook or journal collection page and brainstorm your biggest dreams for the future. And clarify your dream life. Outline your values and remind yourself of your passions as you look at the big picture.

Later, when you set your goals, each one will support your desires.

3. Develop specific goals to guide you there

Now it’s time to get more detailed and set your goals for the new year. Each goal should be specific and include a deadline. If one of your goals feels too lofty, break it down into smaller goals or more manageable pieces.

Bonus tips: Start with a rough draft and mark it up until you are comfortable with your plan. Next, refine and write down your list of goals to kick off the new year! Research has shown that we’re more likely to accomplish our goals when they are in writing.

One of the many reasons we love planners and our 2023 planner bundle has a goal planning section to help you set goals.

But don’t stress! Your goals are not the final. we can reflect on the goals thought-out the year and simply adjust our goals as we need.

4. Create a routine

As you plan your year, create routines and habits that support your goals. As you go about your weeks and days, prioritize the projects, tasks, and to-dos that will help you accomplish your goals. It’s important to remember that our achievements are just the accumulation of small steps in the right direction over time!

How to create New Habits challenge for New Year

Most people decide to eat better, exercise more, or spend less time on social media each January.

Did you find something missing here?

Yes, that’s right. Can you see that this decision won’t make successful?

Simply saying “I’ll eat better in the new year” is that I don’t have a concrete and realistic timeline.

Successful goals must be set by working on SMART principles to plan.

S-specific, M-measurable, A-achievable, R-relevant, T-timeline.

So, a few years ago, I started the 30-day habit-making challenge. I made a habit of one base each month, planned it, and put it into practice, instead of setting huge goals.

I’ve been challenging my lifestyle goals by adding actionable habits one by one. In this way, by forming a new habit every month, I stopped making broken resolutions for the new year.

If you want to know how I did it, you can read my blog post “HOW TO ACHIEVE NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS”

10 habit you should try for New Year’s Resolution

1. Make your bed every day.

Yes, it takes less than 5 minutes. It’s very easy. However, on days off or oversleeping, this habit may be skipped.

“Daily bed-making is a key habit that starts other good decisions throughout the day.”Charles Duhigg, author of The Power of Habit

Making your bed every morning will help organize the rest of the room as well. A neatly arranged bed feels that the overall mood of the room is in order. You can start the day feeling refreshed with this rum. It also increases the productivity of the day.

This habit is part of my morning routine since I created a habit in 2021.

2. Meditate for 10 minutes after waking up

How you spend the first hour of the day determines your mood for the rest of the day.

I set a time for meditation instead of looking at the phone. At first, I practiced guided meditation for 5 minutes. After getting used to it little by little, I increased it to 10 minutes and then continue doing so. Although it is a short time, it is time to fully focus on me.

3. Writing a journal.

Writing a gratitude journal every day, after daily meditation. I write down three things I am grateful for.

It may seem like a small habit, but its benefits should not be underestimated. I was able to find time to relax without getting angry over small things. I found myself looking for new things to add to my gratitude list throughout the day, as well as helping me start my day well.

4. Avoid processed foods.

What I did for this habit was to exclude processed foods from my grocery list. Prepare a meal plan and choose wisely healthy food.

5. Maintain a regular sleep schedule.

Different people may have different bedtimes depending on their lifestyles or job. It’s good to go to sleep at the same time every day and wake up at the same time, but even more important is getting the right amount of sleep.

For this one habit, I recorded a sleep tracker. Sleeping for a long time hurts my back, so it was very important for me to have a moderate sleep habit. And looking at the record, I found myself sleeping for 6-7 hours regularly.

6. Walk at least 15 minutes a day

Living in such an environment, I neglected to go for a walk. So what I started was to walk barefoot on the lawn in the garden next to my company after lunch. I started walking meditation while feeling the leaves of grass touching my feet. These days, even on days off, I practiced this habit with my family.

It’s a short time, but you can get a refreshing effect in the afternoon.

8. Read and study for an hour a day.

For self-improvement, you should always make a habit of studying. For example, there is a lot to learn about my business. Such as business planning, social marketing, developing products, etc. Take the time to learn those things. Set your time to read books or take courses.

To find out more about how to apply lessons from books to your action, please read “how to read non-fiction books effectively”

8. Do 20 minutes of yoga or exercise regularly

I have practiced yoga to increase body flexibility for 2 years. I am not an expert but I try to keep my body healthy. whatever you decide to excise, use your planner to keep a record to review

9. Drink at least 2 liters of water daily.

This is a very natural habit, so I thought it would be easy to do. So, I recorded the amount of water I drink every day on a planner.

Surprisingly, I found myself unable to drink more than 2L of water. Even now, as a regular habit, I practice drinking water instead of drinking coffee.

10. Tidy up the house.

Keeping the house tidy and clean is a daunting task. Classify, organize, and record daily, weekly, and monthly to-dos with a house cleaning checklist.
