If you’re familiar with the interior design principles of views and the comfort of lighting, it’s easy to decorate. An idea may come to mind, for example, by thinking about your favorite table at a restaurant you go to often. Imagine creating a cozy booth in your room. Or imagine a window seat with your back against a wall and your head out the window. This is an example of combining view and comfort, and it feels good on the human heart in ways we can’t always explain.

Your home library should also be designed with these principles in mind. It should be a cozy and safe place. There are several ways to achieve this.

Let’s take a look at the most important steps to setting up a cozy home library.

Decide on a private room or private space.

Private space and cozy lighting

I’m not saying that everyone needs a big space like a library. I also don’t have an extra room like this. And most people use it as a home library, along with a study or home office. However, using a home office and library together seems to work, but it doesn’t. Working from home and relaxing with a good book are two completely different things, and combining them in one space means these two functions are at war with each other.

If you do not have a separate room that can be used as a library, the best option for a reading area is a room that is a relaxation area, such as a sunroom. If you don’t have an extra room at all, you can create a small space in the corner of your living room with a partition for your book collection.

Having a natural and cozy lighting

Light is a big factor that makes a room attractive. Having natural light can really change the feel of a room during the day. However, it can actually work well in a home library if you don’t have much natural light. Warm colored light bulbs in lighting fixtures can make a room cozy.

Make sure that spaces with specific functions, such as your home library, have the right lighting for the job.

Each chair should have a floor lamp or table lamp that the reader can individually adjust. Also, there should be ambient lighting to illuminate the entire room. If you’re on a budget, it’s a good idea to have a light to illuminate the shelves and a special piece of art in the room.

Use practical shelves so your library doesn’t become a museum.

Practical shelves and comfortable seating

If you want to make your home library a place for use rather than display, you need easy access to bookshelves. If there are children in the house, store them in a low place so they can get out and put the books away on their own. You can style your kid’s bookshelves to match kids’ eye level.

Your favorite book should be at eye level so that when you look at the bookshelf, you can actually see the book you want to sit and read. Don’t over-style your shelves or arrange them so that people feel they’re just decorative.

Comfortable seating for a cozy home library

You need a comfortable chair to sit and read your favorite novel. Remember, people don’t like the sofas they share with others, they like their own chairs that only they can sit on. The chair should be physically comfortable, but it should also be emotionally comfortable.

For a chair to have that comfort, the seat must be able to see the door, and the reader must not feel that someone is sneaking over them. Obviously, not all seats in the room have a direct view of the door. Keep in mind that lying on your back at the entrance is psychologically uncomfortable, and do your best.

Focus on the reader to style your library shelves

Every room has a focus, but there is a home library, especially where I spend a lot of time relaxing. If the room has a natural focal point, such as a fireplace or a great view, place seating around it. Of course, this can often conflict with the chair not wanting its back to the door. It’s usually a space used by one person at a time, so there’s one best spot in the room, and that’s fine for a home library.

If you don’t have a natural focus, consider using a high-quality piece of art with cozy paintings, or take the time to style your library shelves. This can be done by grouping books and mixing personal items such as small paintings, vases, or travel souvenirs.

Please remember that books exist to be read and you want to display them in a way that convinces people to pick up one.

Of course, true book lovers will have a home that reflects it in many spaces.

In addition to the private home library, there is a hallway and bedroom with a private library collection. But turning a room into a library changes the feel and heart of the home and sends a message to the family.
