Are you doing well at the end of the year self-reflection suggested in the last post? Today, let’s take a look at the wheel of life that I learned from Tony Robinson’s lecture.
How to set the wheel of life
What is the Wheel of Life?
We tend to focus all our time and energy on one area and neglect other important areas, without learning how to carefully monitor our daily life.
The Wheel of Life can be a very beneficial tool to reflect our life. Drawing the wheel of understanding helps us look at the different categories of life and identify which areas are doing well and which areas need more attention.
Doing this by graphically displaying the different categories of life. You currently have in comparison to the way of life we dream of.
Then, by focusing your time and energy on where the gap is.
You can figure out what steps you need to take to live a happy and successful life.
So how does the wheel of life work?
How to use the wheel of life
Categorization and visualization
Every “piece” of Wheel of Life falls into a category of values that you may think of importance on in your life. Each of these categories is rated on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being poor and 10 being excellent.
If you drag each category into the current situation, you will draw a mosaic-shaped wheel like a spider’s web. This allows you to visualize where you are lacking in your current life.
Identify categories to focus on
Take a look around the Wheel of Life again and mark the ideal scale for where each of these categories should be. (This is more effective if you mark the ideal scale you are aiming for in a color that stands out.)
These visual representations show which areas of your life currently require the most effort and attention.
Keep in mind that every aspect of the Wheel of Life plays an important role in your life.
The goal should be to answer questions as honestly as possible. This will give you the most accurate representation of your present life.
Here we have a question. What category should I choose?

Wheel of life category
Categorizing the wheel of life is different for each person. The categories of the Wheel of Life are working differently depending on an individual’s lifestyle and values. For the most, the categories you choose to include accurately represent important areas of your life that will help you achieve overall life balance.
Let’s look at some common points as examples.
Health
In this category, we aim to assess how well you are physically and mentally. You can ask yourself questions like:
How are you feeling now?
Are you exercising regularly?
What are your eating habits or your usual diet?
Are there any changes you would like to change to live a healthier life?
Career or Business
In this Wheel of Life category, you begin to think about the job you currently have and evaluate how satisfied you are with it.
Do you feel happy where you work?
Do you want to do a different job in a different field?
Is there any potential for growth through your current job?
Can your current job support the lifestyle you want?
Self-development
This category of Wheel of Life looks at how you are investing in your personal growth.
Are you looking for an opportunity to try something new?
Do you want to learn something new?
What are you doing to grow and develop into the person you want to be one day?
Finance
This category should consider whether your current income supports your basic needs and desired lifestyle.
Use Excel or a notebook to track income trends over the next five years. And think about whether you are happy with your current income or if you need to change it.
In this case, you can organize your goals by dividing the financial goals upside down and setting goals. (I will talk about it in detail in the next post.)
Enjoyment of life.
Think about what activities you are doing to feel satisfaction and joy in life.
Whether it’s sports, reading, writing, or any other hobby, it doesn’t matter.
The important thing is that you are regularly engaged in something that brings you happiness.
All work and play make for a boring day and eventually a boring and unsatisfying life.
Even though the terms self-care and self-love are used frequently these days, it is necessary to analyze the level of enjoyment in life a little more.
Community Contribution/ Environment
This Wheel of Life category is about thinking about what you are giving back to others. We don’t live alone, so we ask that you be respectful of how you’re giving back to the people around you and the communities you live in.
Do you volunteer?
Do you support local sports or club activities?
Are you engaging in political issues to make your community a healthier and safer place for all?
Human Relations
You can further subdivide this category. You can also divide it into relationships with other people, including family and friends. Or you can evaluate them collectively. While evaluating this category, ask yourself if you feel your relationships are built on a good foundation.
Do you trust the other person in your interpersonal relationship?
Are you supporting each other?
Can you develop your current relationship positively?
Are these relationships positively affecting your daily life?
In my case, I write down the names of important people in my life and ask myself one by one.
Relationship with Partner/spouse
If you’re married, you’re probably a husband or wife, and if you’re not married, you’ll be asked some questions about your relationship with your partner. This category is considered a very important category in the West.
Ask yourself. Whether you have a partner you can build a relationship of commitment to and support for each other.
Are you supporting each other’s growth?
Do your values match?
Can you smile at each other?
Others define more than 10 categories based on personal values. Create categories that are personal to you. A lot is not a good thing.
Vision board
Goal setting through results
Once you’ve completed the Wheel of Life and accurately and honestly identified your current and ideal scores for each category, you can use these insights to improve your life.
Ask yourself these questions:
Why are you currently getting low/high scores in certain categories?
Which category has the biggest difference between your current position and your ideal score?
What can you do to move your category score from your current location to your ideally desired location?
Which category is most important to your Wheel of Life?
Which category has the biggest impact on your life right now?
Is there a category you would like to pay more/less attention to?
This monitoring becomes an important metric you can respond to provide useful information to move forward as you improve your life.
By looking at your whole life in this way, you can also begin to make connections between the different categories.
For example, how is your career affecting your personal development? Or how are your family relationships affecting your finances and enjoyment of life?
This is all that can be considered and visualized with the Wheel of Life.
Concluding the article…
We are always changing and improving. If you’re not satisfied with a particular category of Wheel of Life or your overall wheel rating, you’ll be motivated to change. You will begin to think about the plans, strategies, and steps you can take to get you where you want to be.
If you look at what we often call successful people, this kind of monitoring has continued and developed.
Through these actions, they begin to understand what works for them and what doesn’t.
Then, over time, you adjust how you pursue your goals and increase the frequency of your success.
Do your best to think in terms of how the different aspects of your life affect each other and can improve your overall quality of life. This will help you find balance and set goals for success.
