However, if you are new here or you want to create your own mockup template, this step process will help you.

Before starting to add your own graphic to your digital planner cover

When you make mockup files, there are many graphic design tools out there. But I mostly use Photoshop and Procreate. Because these tools produce results of high-quality, realistic looking, and professional looking. In this post, I am showing my procreate planner cover mockup template to walk through. If you want to learn more about Photoshop mockups, visit the Arisu Creator Club membership site or my Patreon page.

You will need…

  1. your own planner cover image

  2. the graphic cover image to add to your planner cover

  3. Procreate App

  4. Obviously, I-pad and apple pencil.

Step 1 – Choose Your Graphic

Tips for selecting a graphic that works well for a planner cover

When selecting a graphic for a planner cover, it’s important to choose an image that is relevant to your life, brand image, or interests. Consider selecting an image that represents your goals, hobbies, or favorite places.

It’s also important to choose a high-quality image that will look good when resized to fit the planner cover dimensions. Avoid selecting images that are too busy or cluttered, as they may distract from the overall design of the planner cover.

Finally, consider the color scheme of the image and how it will complement the rest of the planner’s design elements.

Here is the graphic image I want to add to my signature planner cover.

What if, I am not good at drawing?

There are many options for finding graphics to use on your planner cover, including free stock image websites.

Some popular options for free graphics include Unsplash, Pexels, and Pixabay. These websites offer a wide variety of high-quality images that can be downloaded for free and used for personal projects like planner covers.

Another option is to create your own graphic cover image using my commercial use clip art or digital papers in our shop. These items allow you to fully customize the design to your liking.

Additionally, you can search for graphics on social media platforms like Instagram or Pinterest, or browse through design inspiration websites to find ideas for your planner cover. (personal use only)

Step 2-Preparing digital planner cover Graphic with Mask function

Steps to resize and adjust the graphic for the planner cover size

As you can see our signature planner cover has an open tap with a gold button. If you add your graphic onto the planner cover, it will be covered on the open tap and button as well. I know it doesn’t look professional. So that’s why the mask function comes in.

Here is the process…

  1. Open Procreate App. Canva size is the exact size of your actual planner image. Mine is an A4-size planner cover. Remember, the image or graphic should be the actual size or bigger, please don’t go smaller to avoid the low-quality image and blur.

  2. Add your planner cover image at the first layer and adjust the image to fit the canvas.

  3. Duplicate planner cover image

  4. Tap on the “Mask” button in the top left corner of the screen of duplicated planner cover image layer. This will create a new layer mask on the graphic layer.

  5. Use the Medium shift airbrush tool to paint black or white on the mask layer to reveal or hide parts of the graphic. Black hides and white reveals. You can also use shades of gray for more nuanced masking. I hide the open tap part using a mask. You can Zoom in and out of the canvas to draw accurately.

  6. Use the “Undo” function to correct any mistakes or try different masking techniques until you’re satisfied with the result.

  7. Once you’re happy with the mask, you can add your own graphic layer above the mask layer

  8. Adjust your graphic to fit on your planner cover image and tap the layer button “N”

  9. Choose blend mode and opacity as you want. My template has set the “Liner Burn” blending mode

  10. Once you are satisfied with your new planner cover, hide the background color just untick it, and export it as a PNG file.

Step 3- Customizing your planner with a new graphic cover

Once you made the realistic-looking planner cover with your own graphic, now it is time to change your planner cover on your keynote app, affinity, or other publishing programs you use.

Before adding your own cover, remember, to optimize your image. I use tinypng.com to compress the image before adding it to the digital planner keynote template. So my products are leg-free products at the end of the result.

My final thought about the benefits of customizing the planner cover

There are several benefits to customizing a digital planner cover, including:

  1. Reflection of personal style: Personalizing the cover of a digital planner allows you to reflect on your personal style and make it more visually appealing to you.

  2. Increased motivation: A personalized cover can increase your motivation to use your digital planner. When you see a cover that you like, you may be more likely to open the planner and use it consistently. This can help you stay organized and on top of your tasks and goals.

  3. Easy identification: When you have a personalized cover, it’s easier to identify your planner among others. This is particularly helpful if you have multiple digital planners or share a device with others.

  4. Branding: If you use your digital planner for business purposes, personalizing the cover can help with branding. You can add your logo or brand colors to the cover, making it more professional and consistent with your brand identity.

  5. Creativity: Personalizing the cover of a digital planner allows you to be creative and express yourself. This can be a fun and satisfying activity, particularly if you enjoy design and art.

Overall, personalizing a digital planner cover can be a fun and practical way to make your planner more visually appealing and increase your motivation to use it consistently.
