Updated: Oct 26, 2023

Many of you are wondering about creating a wallpaper illustration. In today’s digital age, personalizing our devices has become an essential part of self-expression

Hello Creators!

What happens when I stop using my journal? probably lost my motivation.

I hope you are having a lovely October and are ready to jump into creating autumn stickers.

I have had busy days since came back from Korea.

Thank you for your concern about my mom’s surgery. She is getting better. So I came back home and focused on my community.

Sorry, the wallpapers for this month were released late.

Here are our wallpaper illustrations for the month. You can download desktop and phone wallpapers on my Patreon page for free.

Creating Wallpaper Illustration in Procreate

One of the most popular ways to add a touch of personality to your computer screen is by using custom desktop wallpaper illustrations.

If you’re keen on creating your own unique wallpapers, Procreate, a powerful and intuitive digital illustration app for iPad, is the perfect tool to bring your ideas to life.

In this step-by-step guide, we’ll walk you through the process of creating eye-catching desktop wallpaper illustrations in Procreate.

Step 1: Gather Inspiration for wallpapers

Before you dive into the creative process, spend some time gathering inspiration. Look for artwork, photography, or even nature that resonates with you. Create a mood board to visualize the color palette, themes, and overall vibe you want to convey in your wallpaper illustration.

I got inspired by beautiful autumn colors and Korean Hanbok illustrations, which I currently working on in Hanbok Collections.

Step 2: Set Up Your Canvas

Open Procreate and create a new canvas.

For desktop wallpapers, a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels works well for most screens.

You can adjust the canvas size by tapping on “Create” and selecting “Custom Dimensions.”

Step 3: Sketch Your Ideas

Start with a rough sketch of your ideas.

Use Procreate’s wide range of brushes to experiment with shapes, lines, and compositions.

Don’t worry about perfection at this stage; focus on capturing the essence of your concept.

Step 4: Refine Your Sketch

Once you’re satisfied with your initial sketch, create a new layer and refine your drawing.

Add details, clean up lines, and define the elements of your illustration.

Procreate’s drawing tools, like the QuickShape feature, can help you create smooth and precise lines.

Step 5: Add Colors and Textures

Create a new layer beneath your sketch and start adding colors to your illustration.

Procreate offers a vast selection of brushes and palettes to choose from.

Experiment with different textures, gradients, and blending modes to add depth and visual interest to your artwork.

Step 6: Experiment with Effects and Filters

Procreate provides various effects and filters that can enhance your illustration. Experiment with layer effects like Gaussian blur, Color balance, and noise to achieve different looks.

Be subtle with these effects; a little can go a long way in enhancing the overall aesthetics of your wallpaper.

Step 7: Add Finishing Touches

Fine-tune your illustration by adding finishing touches. This might include highlights, shadows, or additional elements that enhance the overall composition. Pay attention to small details, as they can significantly impact the final result.

Step 8: Export Your Wallpaper

Once you’re satisfied with your desktop wallpaper illustration, it’s time to export your work. Go to the wrench icon in the top menu, select “Share,” and then choose the format you prefer (JPEG or PNG). Make sure to save your illustration at the highest quality possible to preserve all the details. So I always use 300 DPI for my artwork. Even though the web version or digital planner requires 72 DPI. However, it can be low-resolution and only for personal use. For sales, products should be 300 DPI or more. That’s why I stopped using Canva for making artwork products.

Step 9: Set Your Illustration as Wallpaper

Transfer your exported illustration to your computer or directly to your device. Set it as your desktop wallpaper, and voila!

Your personalized wallpaper can be used on your art journal cover page. Here is how I use my illustrations to convert my art journal cover page.

You’ve just personalized your digital space with your own custom creation.

Creating wallpaper illustrations to Share

STATIONERY I use for creating wallpaper illustration

Before you leave, you know that I have to share a few of my favorite supplies in case you’re looking for some recommendations on what to add to your collection.

Here are my favorites:

Sakura Pigma Micron – a good fine liner—is the blood of every Bullet Journal page, especially for October, when you get to play around so much with black color.

Tombow Dual Brush Pens – they have a lot of beautiful colors, including different shades of orange and other fall beauties. Plus, they are great for adding color and brush lettering!

Colorful Blank Journal Notebook – especially a kraft paper one, but I like the others as well. It adds a lot of fun and creativity to your pages, and these are high quality.

Washi Tape – There are many wonderful washi tapes out there, and you can find some that would fit your aesthetics, but I think this one is something special for me and always adds style to my artwork.

Tombow Fude Pens – Brush lettering adds style and character to any journal spread, and I think it would be amazing for cover page lettering as well.

Procreate drawing guidebooks: I learned drawing and painting with Procreate apps. It is useful if you have guides from many artists.

Paperlike screen protector: If you love the traditional drawing feel, the paperlike screen protector is the best. Whenever I draw something on an iPad, I feel like drawing on a real canvas.
