Another illustration guide on creating a stunning floral border in Procreate! I created a floral border in Procreate to make my bullet journal month cover stunning.

Procreate is a powerful digital art tool that allows you to unleash your creativity and bring beautiful designs to life.

In this post, I’ll take you through the process of crafting a captivating floral border from start to finish. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or a beginner, you’ll find valuable tips and techniques to enhance your digital artwork.

Let’s dive in!

Gathering Inspiration For Floral Border

Before we start, it’s essential to gather inspiration for your floral border. Explore various floral designs, patterns, and motifs to get a sense of the style you’d like to achieve.

Take note of color schemes, shapes, and textures that catch your eye. Collecting reference images and resources will serve as a helpful guide throughout the creative process.

I usually search for florals and nature pictures to get inspiration and find the month’s theme motifs.

Everyone has their own favorite flowers, and I love the Cosmos flower. Because the flower reminds me of my close friend quite often. So I chose this floral for next month’s bullet journal theme.

Setting Up Your Canvas

Once you’ve chosen your inspiration, it’s time to set up your canvas in Procreate. Select a suitable canvas size and resolution, depending on the purpose of your artwork.

For a floral border, consider a square or rectangular canvas that provides enough space for your design. Additionally, choose a background color or texture that complements your floral elements.

My canvas setup is 8″ x 10″. And this time I used the symmetry tool in Procreate to create my floral border.

Sketching the Floral Elements

Begin by sketching the basic floral elements of your border. Procreate offers a range of sketching tools and brushes to bring your ideas to life.

Start with simple shapes such as petals, leaves, and stems. Experiment with different brush sizes and pressures to create varying line weights.

Take your time to refine and adjust the composition of your floral elements until you’re satisfied with the overall arrangement.

I sketched cosmos floral as many as possible until I was satisfied with that, and chose a few elements to adjust the composition.

My main purpose of this project is to journal cover. So I re-sketch my floral element to abstract floral to a modern and minimal look.

Using the symmetry tool in Procreate, I only sketch 1/4 side. It is so much easy and fun.

Adding Color and Detail

Now it’s time to add color and detail to your floral border.

Select a color palette that aligns with your inspiration or create your own unique combination.

Begin by applying base colors to each element, gradually building up layers of shading and highlights to add depth and dimension.

Utilize Procreate’s blending modes to experiment with different effects and textures.

Remember, attention to detail is key in bringing your floral border to life.

I separated layers by floral, leaves, and other small raindrops to color them. So I can change the colors of each individual layer non-destructive way.

Incorporating Textures and Effects

To add an extra touch of visual interest, consider incorporating textures and effects into your floral border. Procreate provides a variety of texture brushes that mimic the look and feel of traditional art materials.

Experiment with different brush types and overlay effects to create a sense of depth and realism. Play around with blending modes and layer effects to achieve the desired aesthetic for your floral border.

I added a watercolor paper texture to my design more book cover look. Also, I chose a Violet graduation color to make the contemporary look.

Refining and Adjusting

As you progress, take a step back and review the overall composition of your floral border. Look for any areas that may need refining or adjusting. Pay attention to the balance of elements, color harmony, and overall visual impact. Procreate allows you to easily make changes and modifications, so don’t hesitate to tweak and refine until you’re fully satisfied with the result.

Finalizing the Floral Border

Once you’re happy with your floral border, it’s time to finalize and export your artwork from Procreate. Ensure that you save your work in a high-resolution format for future use.

Share and showcase your creation with the world, whether it’s on social media platforms, personal portfolios, or even as a printed piece of art. Celebrate your accomplishment and the beauty you’ve created!
