10 Ways to Review Your Monthly Goals and Plan

The habit of reviewing your goals and actions on a monthly basis is important as planning and organizing your days and weeks. Monthly review plays an important role in achieving your goals consistently. Today we are going to show you how to do a monthly review.

Why is the monthly Review/Reflection important?

Monthly reviews give you motivation on what you’ve accomplished that month, spot mistakes, and identify areas for improvement. It’s also a very important factor in re-prioritizing ongoing goals or unattainable tasks that are actually worth rescheduling for next month.

Most planners include a page of notes on the front or back of the monthly calendar or at the end of the planner. Also, if you are using a digital planner, you can add this page on a monthly basis. If your planner doesn’t include monthly reviews, here are 10 ways to make a monthly review page own your purpose.

10 ways to do monthly reviews

1 journal in the form of monthly review questions

Write down some questions you would like to ask yourself in the blank page space.

  1. Out of 10 (10 is the highest), how satisfied are you with meeting your goals this month?

  2. Look at your goals and a to-do list at the beginning of the month, and check the completed lists.

  3. Is there anything you haven’t done for more than 3 months? If so, it may be time to stop working.

  4. Am I good at work-life balance?

2. Rating by the wheel of life categories monthly

Depending on the layout of the planner, there are planners that are organized in a way that differentiates the value of life categories.

I talked about it earlier. If you have divided your annual goal-setting into categories of life, review this part by category.

For more information on the wheel of life, please read the post ”How to Set the Wheel of Life”

In general, the categories are:

  1. family

  2. health

  3. Mental Health / Self Care

  4. work/business

  5. finance

Apart from this, you can add any categories you need. Each of these categories is an honest rating of performance.

3. Detailed goals and action lists

If you are the type of person who sets detailed to-dos for each goal when setting goals at the beginning of the month, write down each goal and check the detailed list of things you did during the month to reach that goal.

4. Brainstorming list review

If you have too many ideas to plan and carry out, try creating a brainstorming list at the beginning of the month to organize and review your ideas.

There are many ways to brainstorm, but for me, the brainstorming method is mind-mapping.

At the beginning of the month, set 3 goals for the month on a blank piece of paper. Then, as you draw branches, write down the actions required for that goal.

I start writing all the things I did at the end of the month with these written records. And I keep writing until I can’t think of any more.

Add to your “master to-do list” the lists that you planned to do but didn’t do.

5. Write notes by category

It’s similar to rating the wheel of life category, but it’s a way to write your thoughts or focus by category. This lets you know where to focus your time, where you need to spend less time and where you need to focus more.

Some goals may reach the completion stage with 2 or 3 steps, so you can choose to focus on completing these small steps and more. Then you can prioritize the next month.

6. Review month performance using statistical numbers

This review is very useful if you like numerical statistics. This is especially useful for bloggers, YouTubers, and social influencers.

Things to keep track of:

  1. Blogging – pageviews, subscribers

  2. Health – weight, calories per day, exercise time

  3. mood tracker

  4. Income/ Side Hustle Income Breaker

  5. debt repayment

7. Routine/Habit Tracker Review

Many people have created and practiced Morning routines.

For example, if your morning meditation goal was 5 minutes this month, and you’ve been doing it consistently, you can increase it to 10 minutes next month. This is a quick and easy way to track your progress on a monthly basis.

8. Mood Tracker Review

If you’ve been keeping a daily journal or tracking your mood with a mood tracker, this method is a fine way to review your happiness.

By examining your mood, you can see how well you are working on happiness, and what kind of work you do makes your happiness.

There are many methods of a mood tracker, but making a monthly mood tracker with color is also effective.

9. Photo/Memory Review

If you like taking pictures, you will love this method.

Document everything that happened this month with a photo.

  1. Events (party, celebration, etc.)

  2. A photo of a favorite memory

  3. The biggest lesson I learned in a month and pictures of the results

  4. everything you think is important in life

10. Plan and review your self-development

In my work life, I often do urgent things rather than things I really want to do. It’s a busy work task, but it’s important to review the goal you want to achieve in the long run such as self-improvement learning.

Over the Covid pandemic, we’ve all realized how self-development is important. We found the place we work won’t last long. Personal branding is important to make your professional.

I’ve found it to be more effective to write down what I couldn’t do, but I really want to do, or planned. And then break down steps to achieve the goal, and write a strategy for how you want to improve over the next month.

Review month and plan next month

I talked about how to accomplish your goals on a monthly basis in various ways. You don’t need to do all methods do. It is to check and improve your goals in a way that suits you, and to realize a better life.

It approaches in February. Are you accomplishing the plans you made at the beginning of this year? It’s okay if it’s not a grand goal. Just Do it!

For example, if you have a getting healthy goal, you can set your goal of stretching for 10 minutes a day, review how effectively you performed for a month, and create a more extended goal.

Doing a review is learning how to make effective improvements and approach your goals specifically.

How are you doing monthly reviews? If you have your own method to share with others, please leave a comment.
